18 Sep FROG HOUSE DAY – AWARENESS ABOUT NATURE CONSERVATION
In Landscape Park Radensko Polje, the first Slovenian Nature Conservation Center – Frog house is located right next to the spring of river Šica. The exhibition in Frog House shows the characteristics of Radensko Polje in connection with the main activities carried out in the park. One of them is the control and management of the park with the aim of protecting valuable habitats and present geo- and biodiversity.
The Frog House opened in July 2021, and since then, many educating activities about the importance of nature protection had taken place. One of these activities took place on Sunday, September 17, as a part of the festival »Grosuplje v jeseni«. We held an event dedicated to the protection of nature called Frog House Day. On that day, families and individuals learned about amphibians and the measures that we implement within the LIFE AMPHICON project to protect amphibians and preserve their habitats. The day was also dedicated to networking – we hosted the LIFE BEAVER project (Lutra, Institute for Conservation of Natural Heritage) with an otter and beaver presentation and the Slovenian Herpetological Society, which presented the reptiles of Slovenia. Visitors were able to take a guided tour of the exhibition in the Frog House, listen to a lecture on non-native and invasive species, watch conservation-oriented stories, and listen to a children’s choir singing frog-themed songs. There was no shortage of home-made goodies from local producers.
More than 400 visitors took part in the Day of the Frog House, who left the Frog House strengthened with an awareness of the importance of protection and, most importantly, a deeper awareness of the nature around us.
