02 nov WORKSHOP AT THE KOZJANSKO APPLE FESTIVAL
In October, we held workshops for children at the Kozjansko Apple Festival as part of promotion of the Life Amphicon project at the mentioned event. Children learned basic things about amphibians, especially about their eating habits. Moreover, they made their own amphibian.
Kozjansko Apple Festival is a traditional event in Kozjanski Park, which takes place every second weekend in October since 2000. The aim of the Festival is to showcase the collaboration between the Park’s inhabitants and its management, and promote joint efforts for preservation of nature. Standard-size meadow orchards represent one of the most important habitats in Kozjanski Park, especially for endangered bird species such as eurasian wryneck, scops-owl, red-backed shrike…
The event is well attended every year, we record a few thousands of people. Besides workshops for children, there is a competition in baking the best apple “strudel”, who makes the longest apple peel, a recreational run to Podsreda Castle, cycling, a mushroom exhibition and an exhibition of old apple varieties. Moreover, the Carjevic title and award goes to the owner of the standard-size meadow orchard, who took the best care of its orchard in the current year.
