WE PRESENTED THE LIFE AMPHICON PROJECT AT THE 5TH BIOLOGICAL EVENING

Katja Poboljšaj from the Centre for Cartography of Fauna and Flora presented the project LIFE AMPHICON – Amphibian Conservation and Habitat Restoration at the 5th Biological Evening organised by the University of Primorska, Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies (UP FAMNIT). The online event took place on Wednesday, 15 February 2023 and was attended by 57 participants.

You will hear about the results of the preparatory actions in the project areas in the Ljubljansko barje, Jovsi, Bohor and Radensko polje. The results are of great importance for the establishment of measures for amphibians, such as the creation and restoration of water and terrestrial habitats, as well as permanent fences and underpasses on roads. You can also find out more about the work, successes and highlights of the first season of the supportive breeding of the Italian crested newt (Triturus carnifex) in Slovenia. The first breeding station of its kind in Europe is managed by employees of Kozjanski park.

Katja Poboljšaj presented the activities of the Coordination Centre for Amphibians in Slovenia, as well as information on how the general public can be involved in the LIFE AMPHICON project.
