22 okt OPENING OF THE NEW INFO CENTER FOR AMPHIBIANS IN KOZJANSKI PARK – ŽABJA DOMAČIJA
This year, alongside the 25th anniversary of the Kozjansko Apple Festival, we have added a new chapter to the Kolar Homestead in Trebče. In the wooden house by the pond, we have opened the doors to the new amphibian info center – Žabja domačija (Frog Homestead).
As part of the LIFE Amphicon project, Žabja domačija has become a place where visitors can explore the world of amphibians, discover the wonders of their lives and learn about the diversity of their habitats. Inside the homestead, species found in Kozjanski Park and nearby Natura 2000 areas are presented, along with their life cycles, unique characteristics and the habitats they live in. The info center also showcases various conservation measures that are important for maintaining amphibian populations. In addition to the indoor displays and interactive exhibits, visitors can follow an educational trail around Trebče FIsh-pond with informative signs that track amphibians throughout the year — from their spring migrations to breeding sites, till their autumn preparations for hibernation during the cold part of the year..
In Trebče, nature and cultural heritage are inseparably intertwined. The fish-pond is an important breeding ground for local amphibians, and for over 25 years, Kozjanski Park and volunteers have worked together to ensure the safe migration of amphibians to the water in spring. The story of today’s Info center actually began to take shape back then. Prior to the opening of the amphibian exhibit, the house was also renovated, including a new thatched roof, refreshed facade and the renovation of the floors and interior. The municipality of Bistrica ob Sotli, as the owner of the Kolar Homestead, contributed an important part of the renovation funds.
The new Info Center for Amphibians is intended for all generations. It is a place for relaxation or exploration and a center for education and raising awareness about the importance of amphibians and their habitats.
