PUPILS EXPLORING THE “POT NA MAH” EDUCATIONAL TRAIL IN LJUBLJANSKO BARJE

Nearly a year after the opening of the Pot na Mah educational trail—set in the heart of the Ljubljansko Barje (Ljubljana Marshes)—we’re excited to welcome pupils from nearby schools to experience its unique natural environment and discover the rare and endangered species that live here.

Over the past weeks, primary schools from the surrounding area, including Brezovica, Borovnica, and Preserje, along with their smaller local outpost of the main schools, have joined us for guided walks through the vibrant landscape. These excursions take pupils across blooming meadows, past remnants of rare raised bogs, and into the habitats of birds and amphibians. Nearly 300 pupils will have joined the trail activities by the time the school year ends.

These nature education days take the earlier school workshops on amphibians and wetland conservation a step further. Now, with the help of the new trail, pupils can see firsthand how these animals live, what threatens them, and how we study and protect them. The experience offers a blend of outdoor adventure and environmental education—an opportunity to connect with nature in one of Slovenia’s most ecologically important areas.

The Pot na Mah trail is also open to the public and ideal for independent explorers. The starting point is the Goričica pod Krimom – Prevalije Fire Station at Goričica pod Krimom 29, near the village of Preserje.

Come and explore with us!
