Project area inspection: Felchowseegebiet

Project area inspection: Felchowseegebiet

The German team (VUO & AMPHI) met for a joint inspection of the project areas around the Felchowsee. All visited locations were documented and their suitability for the (re-)creation of habitats was assessed. More locations were identified for the actionplan (ponds, summer and winter habitats) than the minimal goal of the project. Hence, the starting position for the action plan of 2021 seems very promising. In addition, the riddle about the name “Idiotshill” could be solved.

For many decades of the 20th century the area was used for military training. Numerous tanks have shaped the landscape and many trenches were dug by the soldiers. Since digging up the area did not seem to have a real goal, it was called “Idiotshill”. This is how the area got its characteristic hilly shape with many ditches and “craters”.
