01 Mar e-Newsletter Regljač and amphibian spring migrations
Rainy weather in the coming weeks will stimulate the amphibian spring migrations. On their migration from hibernation to breeding sites, amphibians are frequently victims of roadkills since roads often intersect their traditional migratory routes. At several locations in Slovenia, temporary amphibian fences were set up in the last week to mitigate amphibian roadkills. They prevent animals access to the road and reduce or completely prevent massive roadkills. Every evening amphibians are safely carried to the other side of the road by the volunteers.
In 2020, we established excellent collaboration with many organizations, associations, volunteers and individuals that are organizing actions all over Slovenia. With their help, we managed to prepare the first annual overview of amphibian mitigation measures on the roads and other conservation activities on the national level. In the first issue of e-newsletter Regljač. The results are published as well as guidelines for the new season of amphibian spring migrations.
Do you want to know how many amphibians were recorded on almost 50 km of Slovenian roads, how many participants or volunteers were saving amphibians on roads in 2020 and where new amphibian ponds were created? Would you like to find out interesting facts and read adventures from amphibian conservation actions all over Slovenia?
We kindly invite you to read the first issue of the e-newsletter REGLJAČ.
