13 Dec LIFE AMPHICON CALENDAR 2022 – MORE THAN JUST A CALENDAR
Within the LIFE AMPHICON project, a very special Calendar was created for the year 2022. It can be used in various ways due to the design itself. The shape of the calendar already reminds us of one of its purposes – you can use it as a bookmark, to mark unread pages in your favorite books.
The calendar also serves as an educational tool – four different motifs illustrate some of the species of amphibians and the life cycle of the target species of the LIFE AMPHICON project, the Italian crested newt and the yellow-bellied toad. The calendar can also serve as an educational tool. All of the illustrations on the Calendar were created by the Slovenian illustrator, Andreja Kramberger.
Additionally, the Calendar is printed on the paper, made of invasive alien species Japanese knotweed (lat. Fallopia japonica). The paper was hand-made in the PAPLAB workshop, which was designed as a part of a European project APPLAUSE. The aim of this project was also to process invasive alien plants into useful products. By using this paper for the Calendar, we want to encourage the removal of invasive alien plants from nature, which can overgrow our native autochthonous species.
And last but not least, it often happens that we do not have a ruler on hand, when we need it the most. Due to the measure on the Calendar, it can be also used as a ruler, for example, to measure the length of amphibians.
When the calendar was printed, we asked the followers of the LIFE AMPHICON project at the Facebook page for what purposes the Calendar could be used. The number of answers was above expectations and we received many interesting, also fun answers. You can check them at our FB page.
