26 Sep WE ORGANIZED SEVEN SUMMER CAMPS FOR CHILDREN
In Kozjanski Park, we successfully held 7 five-day summer camps, which were planned as part of the LIFE Amphicon project. In 2021, despite the covid-19, which put us all in a state of uncertainty, we successfully held 2 summer camps. In 2022, we held 3 camps, and this year we held the last 2 camps.
In total, more than a hundred children from the area of Kozjanski Park and other parts of Slovenia were included in the summer camps. The children discovered the world of amphibians in different stages of their lives. Since it was summer, they were able to see the Smooth newt (Lissotriton vulgaris), the Alpine newt (Ichthyosaura alpestris), the Italian crested newt (Triturus carnifex), green frogs, newly metamorphosed brown frogs, the European tree frog (Hyla arborea) – adult one and its spawn, the Yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegata) and its spawn. They had the opportunity to hold the amphibian in their hands and see how fieldwork is done. In the midday heat, they drew amphibians, made them out of clay, and made board games…A lot was going on.
They also got to know other groups of animals and plants in Kozjanski Park, they went on orientation hike, lit a fire, and prepared dinner in the evening, they even slept on hay in the orchard of Kozjanski Park.
Full of experiences and impressions after a week of learning, socializing, and making friends, we ended our journey with the thought that nature is really wonderful and full of life, we just have to observe, nurture, and respect it.
