FROG PATROL IN RADENSKO POLJE

This year, for the 17th time in a row, Radensko polje Landscape Park has successfully organized the Frog Patrol Initiative on the road along the Radensko polje, connecting Veliko Mlačevo and Velika Račna. This action is a vital component of the LIFE AMPHICON project.

In collaboration with the Račna and Čušperk volunteer fire brigades, we installed a safety fence for amphibians. Additionally, employees from Public Utility Company Grosuplje (Javno komunalno podjetje Grosuplje) helped with the final arrangement of the fence – digging the bottom part of the fence into the soil.

The action started on February 9. With the help of more than 100 volunteers, we checked the fence every evening and safely transported the found amphibians across the road. In total, we saved thousands of amphibians from being run over. We put down the fence on March 14, as the amphibians had already started returning from the spawning ground back to the forest. This year’s campaign was held for 33 nights.

We would like to thank all organizations and individuals who contributed with their work and energy to make this Frog Patrol action run smoothly and to save many amphibians once again.
