18 Nov 2ND LIFE AMPHICON INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
On Friday, 15 November 2024, the two-day 2nd International Conference of the LIFE AMPHICON Project – Amphibian Conservation and Habitat Restoration concluded at Podsreda Castle in Kozjansko Regional Park.
The main achievements of the LIFE AMPHICON activities were presented at the conference, with a special focus on population reinforcement.
The conference brought together amphibian experts from eight European countries to exchange experiences and good practices in the conservation of amphibians and their habitats and opened the opportunity for discussions and various collaborations.
Participants listened to 15 presentations in three sessions, and experts also presented the results of their research in the form of posters in a poster session. Speakers and project partners at the conference stressed the importance of an integrated approach to tackling amphibian threats and of cooperation and networking between organizations from different sectors.
The conference was concluded with a field visit to some of the LIFE AMPHICON activities implemented in Kozjansko Park. Participants visited the new Info Centre for Amphibians in Slovenia – Žabja domačija and walked around Jovsi, the project area, which is part of the nearby Natura 2000 site Dobrava – Jovsi.
In Jovsi, over the past years, we have established suitable aquatic and terrestrial habitats for amphibians on purchased land and have been strengthening the population by supporting breeding for the Italian crested newt (Triturus carnifex).
