NEW WATER HABITATS FOR EUROPEAN TREE FROG IN THE BIČJE NATURE RESERVE

The team of the Radensko polje Landscape Park successfully excavated six new ponds in the Bičje Nature Reserve last week. These are primarily intended to support the European tree frog (Hyla arborea), but will also provide an important habitat for other amphibians.

Ponds were created as part of the action C.5 Replication and transfer of project solutions and results, which aims to share good practices in nature conservation to other similar areas.

Each pond has gently sloping banks that form wide shallow zones – ideal conditions for the breeding of the European tree frog. We also expect that other amphibian species living in the area will soon inhabit them. With this action, we have made a significant contribution to increasing the quality of aquatic habitats for amphibians in the Bičje Nature Reserve.
