01 Jun LIFE AMPHICON WORKSHOP: VISIT FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN
Students from the University of Copenhagen’s Forest and Landscape College visit a wide range of nature management cases across Denmark as part of their education.
During their education to become forest- and landscape-engineers, they must learn about the management and conservation of different types of landscape.
This year the students came to Tårup Strand to learn about our conservation actions for the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina).
The students showed eagerness and curiosity in their questions regarding grazing, fencing and the continuous quest to keep the ponds for the fire-bellied toad open and exposed to the sun.
The story of how we almost lost Bombina bombina on Tårup Strand some 40 years ago captivated the students. They understood the importance of keeping the ponds open, whilst creating new ones seeking to expand the territory of Bombina bombina (and all the other species that follow it).
The ponds in the municipal area were established 19 years ago.
Hopefully the actions taken during the Life Amphicon project will continue to bear fruit.
Most of the students had not met the fire-bellied toad before, but they were all very enthusiastic about it.
